Throat Mic

Throat microphone is based on throat or neck vibration to convert into voice signal. It is also known as neck microphone, contact microphone or laryngophone. Basically, a sensor is attached to the user neck and when the user talks, the vibration around the neck will be transmitted to the sensor. Our sensor is based on Piezoelectric Element Technology; it is not an Electret Condenser microphone. The sensors, called transducers, can pick up the voice induced vibration signal via the neck area and convert it into a voice signal. As the pickup is via contact of the skin and not through the traditional sound wave via air it blocks out most of the background noise and with proper, secure and optimized concealment it can totally eliminate all background noise. It is extremely useful for noisy and windy environments such as on a motorcycle or in a nightclub.

PIEZOELECTRIC TECHNOLOGY:

Piezoelectric transducers are a type of electroacoustic transducer that converts the electrical charges produced by some forms of solid materials into energy. The word "piezoelectric" literally means electricity caused by pressure.

A transducer can be anything that converts one form of energy to another. The piezoelectric material is one kind of transducer. When we squeeze this piezoelectric material or apply any force or pressure, the transducer converts this energy into voltage. This voltage is a function of the force or pressure applied to it.  In this way, physical quantities like mechanical stress or force can be converted into voice signals processed via a pre-amplifier. And then via a shielded cable the amplified signal will be transmitted to your microphone amplifier devices. For example voice amplifiers, voice recorder, wireless voice transmitter, computer, two way radio, wireless tour guide system or any other devices that have audio sound processor.

APPLICATIONS:

Throat microphones are versatile devices with various applications across different fields. Here's a breakdown of their applications in tactical, medical, and recreational settings:

Tactical Applications:

As it is able to pick up whispers, and therefore perform well in environments where communicating with others at a distance in silence is required, such as during covert military or law enforcement operations.

Military Operations:

Throat microphones are commonly used by military personnel in combat situations. They provide clear communication even in noisy environments and offer discreet communication, which is crucial in tactical operations.

Law Enforcement:

Police forces and other law enforcement agencies utilize throat microphones for covert communication during operations. They enable clear communication without external noise interference, aiding in effective coordination among team members.

Security Personnel:

Throat microphones are valuable for security personnel working in crowded or noisy environments such as concerts, festivals, or sporting events. They allow for discreet communication without drawing attention.

Search and Rescue

Throat microphones are utilized by search and rescue teams operating in challenging environments where conventional communication devices may be inadequate. They provide reliable communication in adverse conditions, such as during natural disasters or wilderness rescues.

Medical Applications:

Throat microphones are also very useful when personal protective equipment (PPE) is being utilized, especially when helmets or respiratory protection is required. Many Face Mask, Gas Mask, SAR (Supplied Air Respirator), SCBA (Self-contained Breathing apparatus) or CABA (Compressed air breathing Apparatus) cannot accommodate a microphone inside the mask. With a throat microphone, you can use it safely, as it is positioned outside the mask's face seal and as such it does not compromise the respiratory protection provided by the mask. And in Covid situation, all healthcare personnel and patients need to use personal protective equipment (PPE).  Their mouth is completely covered with a mask and face shield, and in addition to the noisy working environments, both healthcare personnel and patients will have great difficulty communicating with each other. Hence, a throat microphone system with a voice amplifier will help to improve communication.

Below are some of the medical applications-

Surgery:

Throat microphones can be used in surgical environments where traditional communication methods, such as speaking, might not be practical due to the need for sterility or noise reduction. Surgeons and surgical team members can communicate effectively without compromising the sterile field.

Hospital Environments:

Throat microphones can facilitate communication between medical staff in busy hospital settings where background noise or distance may hinder clear communication. They are particularly useful in emergency departments and intensive care units.

Speech Therapy:

Throat microphones can aid in speech therapy by providing immediate feedback on vocalizations and articulation. They allow speech therapists to monitor and assess patients' progress accurately.

Assistive Communication:

For individuals with disabilities affecting speech, throat microphones can serve as assistive communication devices, enabling them to communicate more effectively by picking up subtle vocalizations or vibrations from the throat.

Recreational Applications:

Motorcycling:

Throat microphones are used by motorcyclists for communication while riding. They offer clear communication even in noisy environments and can be integrated into helmets for convenience.

Extreme Sports:

Throat microphones are popular among participants in extreme sports such as skydiving, snowboarding, and rock climbing. They provide hands-free communication and are resistant to wind and other environmental noise.

Gaming:

Throat microphones can be used by gamers for voice communication during multiplayer gaming sessions. They offer a more immersive experience compared to traditional microphones and are less likely to pick up background noise. Great for gamer that need to play with party chat that need to use the surround sound system or silent gamer that want to whisper to communicate.

Outdoor Activities:

Throat microphones are suitable for various outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and hunting. They provide reliable communication in rugged environments where traditional communication devices may falter.

These are just some of the many applications of throat microphones across different sectors. Their versatility and effectiveness make them invaluable tools in various scenarios.

Cosplay:

Throat microphones can also find applications in cosplay, especially for costumes that involve full face masks or helmets where traditional microphones might be obstructed or difficult to integrate.

Here's how throat microphones can be used in cosplay:

Character Authenticity: For cosplayers aiming for authenticity, especially when portraying characters from video games, movies, or comic books, throat microphones can be essential. They allow cosplayers to maintain the appearance of their character while still being able to communicate effectively with others at conventions or events.

Integration with Costumes:

Throat microphones can be seamlessly integrated into costumes, particularly those with masks or helmets, without compromising the overall look. Unlike traditional microphones, which may require visible wiring or bulky attachments, throat microphones can be discreetly hidden within the costume.

Hands-Free Communication:

Cosplayers often need to interact with others or participate in activities while in costume. Throat microphones provide hands-free communication, allowing cosplayers to stay in character while still being able to communicate with friends, handlers, or event organizers.

Noise Reduction:

Conventions and events can be noisy environments, making it challenging to communicate effectively, especially when wearing elaborate costumes. Throat microphones help mitigate background noise, ensuring clear and uninterrupted communication between cosplayers and others.

Group Cosplays:

In group cosplays where coordination and teamwork are essential, throat microphones enable efficient communication among team members. Whether coordinating poses for photoshoots or navigating crowded convention halls, throat microphones facilitate seamless communication within the cosplay group.

Enhanced Role-Playing:

Throat microphones can enhance the role-playing experience for cosplayers by allowing them to communicate with each other in character. This adds depth and immersion to group cosplays or interactive performances where characters need to interact convincingly.

Overall, throat microphones offer practical solutions for cosplayers looking to maintain character authenticity, integrate communication seamlessly into their costumes, and navigate the challenges of communicating in noisy convention environments. They contribute to a more immersive and enjoyable cosplay experience for both cosplayers and fans alike.
